Joy-Con on Nintendo Switch is not working properly, so I changed it.
Changing the Joy-Con controllers on your Nintendo Switch is easy! Here’s how to detach and reattach Joy-Cons and pair new ones if needed.
1. Detach Joy-Con Controllers
- Turn your Nintendo Switch on and hold it in handheld mode.
- On the back of each Joy-Con, you’ll see a small, round button near the top (next to where it slides onto the console).
- Press and hold this button while gently sliding the Joy-Con upward until it releases from the console.
- Repeat for the other Joy-Con if necessary.
2. Attach New Joy-Con Controllers
- Line up the new Joy-Con with the side rail of the console.
- Slide the Joy-Con down along the rail until it clicks into place.
- The Switch should automatically detect the new controller, and you’ll feel a slight vibration if it connects properly.
3. Pair New Joy-Cons (If Needed)
- Go to the Home menu on your Switch.
- Select Controllers → Change Grip/Order.
- On the new Joy-Con, press the L and R buttons (or SL and SR buttons for horizontal mode).
- The Switch should recognize the new controllers and pair them automatically.
Tips
- If the Joy-Cons don’t connect, restart your console or try pairing them manually through Controllers in the settings.
- Ensure Joy-Cons are charged; otherwise, they won’t sync properly.
